NotifyLink Requirements for System Administrators

Telecommunications NotifyLink service requires minimal reconfiguration on the requesting party's email server. Once the email server meets the requirements for the initial user request, subsequent user request will not require additional server configuration.

  1. IMAP over SSL (993) service enabled on the email server is preferred. If not available, regular IMAP (143) will work.
  2. Default port for email server personal information manager (PIM) must be available:
GroupWise port 1677
Exchange port 80
Exchange over SSL port 443
Kerio port 8080
MDaemon port 3000
Mirapoint port 80
Oracle port 7779
Sun ports 80 and 3080
Zimbra port 80

The NotifyLink server sends and receives email with the email server using IMAP over SSL. NotifyLink also uses the default email server port (see list above) to access PIM items such as calendar, contacts, and tasks.

Running NotifyLink service does NOT require that the IMAP over SSL or PIM ports be open on the campus firewall. However if there is a departmental firewall between the email server and the rest of the campus network, IMAP over SSL and PIM ports need to be opened.
