Cable TV FAQ

Q. Where can I find current listings for what's on TV?
A. You can get a current line-up for TV programming by going online, entering your ZIP code (77843), and then selecting "Texas A&M University College Station - Cable"

Q. I have a high-definition (HD) television. Will it work on campus?
A. An HD television works on campus for regular programming only. Currently, no high-definition channels are offered. Implementing multiple HD channels on the campus cable system requires some more study and a better understanding of the desired capabilities to develop a cost-effective and operable scheme.

Q. Does the change in the cable provider mean I have to change my cable modem?
A. If you have a cable modem on campus, your provider will continue to be Texas A&M.

Q. Why can't I see KAMU-DT on my television?
A. KAMU-DT is on channel 7 of the campus cable system.

Q. Why I can't see channels 13, 14, 15, etc. (the "vacant" channels)?
A. Please refer to the online channel line-up.

Q. Since we are using a satellite company, do I need to use a box on top of my television?
A. You do NOT need a box on top of your television. All channels are visible, except the premium channels (HBO).

Q. How do I hook up cable radio stations to my stereo receiver?
A. Currently, no cable radio stations are offered.

Q. How do I request adding other channels to the line-up?
A. Contact your residence hall representative (RA, RD).

Q. Can I get Pay-Per-View in my room/apartment?
A. Pay-Per-View services are not offered at this time.

Q. Can I order other premium services besides HBO?
A. HBO is the only premium service offered at this time.

Q. How do I get TiVo to work?
A. TiVo is a service offered at local electronic stores (Best Buy and Circuit City). TiVo uses a local telephone line to request the appropriate channel programming for recording purposes. Follow the setup instructions provided with the TiVo. When selecting the appropriate channel line-up, enter your campus ZIP code (77843), then look for "Lamont Campus Televideo Texas A&M - Cable (College Station)".

Q. I called in a service request and nothing happened. What do I do now, or who can I call?
A. We are experiencing a request volume that was higher than anticipated. If you are not contacted within two business days, please call CIS Help Desk Central at 979.845.8300.

Q. Why is CIS Help Desk Central handling cable television service calls?
A. Cable television is a service provided through the Department of Residence Life and the Telecommunications Department. Telecommunications Department technicians will be dispatched through CIS Help Desk Central to fix any outages.

Q. How much does cable TV service cost?
A. Cable TV rates for students in the residence halls and university apartments are set by the Department of Residence Life (see Residence Hall Amenities or University Apartments Amentities).
For campus departments and offices, the monthly rate for cable television service and the charge for installing a jack can be viewed at the Rate Information page.
